Ford Mustang – an icon redefined

The Ford Mustang is the long- est surviving of the afforda- ble breed of classic American muscle cars. Sold always in
coupe and most times in converti- ble and 2+2 fastback forms as well since its 1964 introduction, the Ford Mustang is the only one of the original pony cars to enjoy an unin- terrupted production run. the latest Mustang, unveiled on 17 April 2014 to mark its remarkable 50th anni- versary, is now available for sale in Kenya following the commence- ment of right-hand drive production for the first time at the Flat rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.
the latest version of the iconic Ford Mustang is quicker, better look- ing, more refined, and more efficient than its predecessors. However, it has not lost any of the raw appeal that people have come to associate Mustangs with for half a century. the latest Ford Mustang is load- ed with innovative technologies and delivers dazzling performance and style. It is available in a comprehen- sive line-up including the sleek and

seductive Fastback, as well as the stunning convertible.

Design
the latest Ford Mustang retains key design characteristics of the previ- ous models such as the long-sculpt- ed hood and short rear overhang. New design tweaks include a lower, wider stance with a reduction in roof height, and wider rear fenders. the front features a more aggressive sig- nature ‘shark-bite’ front fascia and trapezoidal grille.
Vertical slots in the outer edge of the front fascia channel air from the front of the car to openings in the wheel wells, directing it across the outer surface of the wheel and tyre. the wall of high-speed air works much like a skirt to reduce drag while still leaving the beautifully designed alloy wheels fully exposed. the grille also has to provide an inlet for air that cools the engine.
Allowing air to flow through the

engine bay instead of directing it around the sides and over the top of the body increases drag. each of Mustang’s two engines gets a unique grille that allows in only as much air as that power plant needs.
the designers have also returned the sleeker profile that was visible on the 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback. Hence, the Ford Mustang features more steeply sloped windshield and rear glass. At the rear, the redesigned traditional three-dimensional tri-bar tail lamps feature sequential turn signals.
Ford Mustang convertible driv- ers will appreciate the standard mul- tilayer insulated cloth top that gives the car an upscale appearance and a quiet interior. the top has a sleek profile when folded for sun-soaked open-air motoring.

Performance
Ford’s acclaimed 5.0 litre V8 power plant employs sequential multiport electronic fuel injection and variable camshaft timing to produce a hefty
306kW (410 hp) of power, along with a thunderous 530Nm of torque. this enables the Mustang 5.0V8 Gt

usable cargo space is a big plus. the compact roof and flat load floor enabled by the independent rear suspension ensures that the 332-litre luggage compartment is big enough to swallow two large golf bags. the Mustang Fastback boasts a 408-litre capacity. All Mustangs come with a backup camera as standard equip- ment, and a blind-spot monitoring system is available.

Conclusion
the current generation Ford Mustang marks another great chapter in the car’s 53-year history. No Mustang has ever-blended great design, perfor-mance and efficiency like the current generation Ford Mustang. However, notable and iconic Mustang char- acteristics are still visible, notably the roaring V8. eco mentalists will appreciate the economical eco boost unit. Prices start at 10.5 million for the Ford Mustang V8 with a manual transmission and 9.5 million for the 2.3-litre ecoboost version. the Ford brand in Kenya is under the able hands of cMc Motor Group, a subsidiary of Al-Futtaim Automotive Group.
