In 2015, the APC Group, which is a group of associated companies that includes the award‐winning Asia Plantation Capital decided to widen its global corporate presence to include Africa Plantation Capital in Kenya, with a major acquisition of land for the creation of high value bamboo plantations. This new expansion is to facilitate the group’s major investment into a forestry plantation sector that could be crucial in meeting the challenges currently faced by the global timber and biomass industries, as well as driving the quest for sustainable manufacturing solutions.
The group’s business plan is to establish several sustainable agroforestry projects in the country targeting to export the produced biomass to international markets. The group is dedicated to penetrate the East Africa Region’s economic sector successfully bringing innovation, high quality plantation management skills, years of experience and great resources. Africa Plantation Capital, the Group’s associate company in Kenya has been growing fast over the first 12 months of operations in the country.
With 2 offices in Nairobi, 2 offices in Mombasa, 3 Plantations under management and strategic partnerships with the public and private sector, APC has managed to achieve faster on its plans than was expected for the first year of operation. With over 150 employees including a great plantation management team of agronomists, quantity surveyors, engineers, land surveyors, hydrologists among others, Africa Plantation Capital has put the foundation for the project’s success.
Following the APC Group’s policy for extensive Corporate Social Responsibility, Africa Plantation Capital has already planned and is implementing an extensive CSR program all over Kenya from scholarship’s to environmental awareness days, water tank donations to bigger CSR projects like “Riverbanks Conservation” program, APC is committed to giving back to the Kenyan society as much as possible.
The APC group has been operating successfully for the last 15 years and currently has 126 plantations under management in Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, and the US. The group is also operating 5 distilleries , process facilities and 5 boutiques. APC group Head administration office is located in Geneva while the operations include another 11 offices around the world.
The APC group’s operation success has been recognised severally from different organizations around the world for its sustainable plantation management and forestry investment skills in Europe and Asia. During the just concluded Business Awards, the Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded Africa Plantation Capital the “New Business of the Year” award adding one more recognition to the group’s achievements over the years.
In the “New Business of the year “category, Africa Plantation Capital was among great competitors such as Nissan Kenya, Sport Pesa, Betin, Kensil Limited and Uber. Despite the great competition, APC was the award winner. Mr. Kelvin Kaloki Sila, Business Development Director for Africa Plantation Capital received the award from HON. Peter Kenneth who graced the ceremony held on Friday December the 9th at Sarova White Sands in Mombasa. It was a glamour event with some of the most popular people of the Kenya business community including the presence of the chairman of KNCCi Mr. Kipruto Kittony.
Mr. Kioleoglou Kosta, Regional Managing Director for Africa Plantation Capital said that this year was vital for the future growth and expansion for the company and the APC Group in the region.
The full compliance of the company with the Kenyan laws, including all relative to the project licencing such as NEMA, strategic partnerships the company has established over the last 12 months with local and international partners of the private and public sector have established a great foundation for the company’s success.
2017 is the year that we expect the company to go to the next level. We are targeting 5 more operations in Kenya and expand at least in one if not two EAC countries. This will bring more Green investments in Kenya.
The company’s plans for 2017 also include an extensive research program to be conducted with KEFRI on introduction of new species from Asia that the group wants to introduce to the Kenyan Market.
